Dream It, Be It Program
Soroptimist of Desert Tucson
works with young women at Flowing Wells High School and at the YWCA's House of Neighborly Service.
Our
Dream It, Be It
program prepares girls for success by giving them access to professional role models, career education, and the resources to live their dreams.
The Dream It, Be It program utilizes a curriculum developed by Soroptimist International through research and consultation with experts on adolescent girls. In addition, Soroptimists conducted in-depth interviews with girls in 22 countries to identify educational and mentoring issues that need to be addressed in order to help these girls gain the skills needed to live their dreams.
Although all girls encounter barriers because of their gender, our focus is on working with girls who may face additional obstacles including poverty, unstable home lives, academic challenges, or teen motherhood. We work closely with teachers, administrators, and program staff to present a wide-ranging curriculum that includes modules on discovering dreams, exploring careers, creating goals, rising above obstacles, managing stress, and putting dreams into action.
Our goal is to have both short and long term effects. We want to help girls stay healthy and safe now, maintain good boundaries, and make the most of the resources around them during their school years. Not all girls know what they want to do in the future, so we work to give them the building blocks they need to reach their future goals as well. Our long-term goal is to place these girls on a path to future success, improving their lives and the lives of those around them.

As mentors, we lead the girls through simulation games, conversations about personal values and resilience, and identify action steps for achieving their long-term goals.
We plan fun activities and get to know the girls one-on-one.
We believe in the power of girls to change the world, but we know that they also need the direction and skills to help make those dreams a reality.
