Soroptimist programs effect fundamental change and help women and girls around the world to live their dreams. We are proud of our international connection but in reality most of our money stays here in Southern Arizona. With assistance from Soroptimist, women in Tucson have moved closer to economic independence, freedom from violence, and increased learning opportunities.
Women like Guadalupe. Guadalupe survived years of physical and mental abuse at the hands of a violent husband who once even cut off her hair in a fit of rage. She eventually left him, and was able to rebuild her life and pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology thanks in part to more than $14,000 in Women’s Opportunity Awards from Soroptimist. As a domestic violence counselor, she now helps other women escape abusive relationships. “I am very grateful to Soroptimist,” said Guadalupe, “because they have helped me begin my new life.”
In addition to the Women’s Opportunity Awards, many other Soroptimist programs help women and girls in Tucson and throughout the world to live their dreams.
